Woodlands Evergreen Wedding Venue, Foothill Wedding Venue Near Denver Colorado

Getting Married at Woodlands in Morrison, Colorado

Clean, modern, blank space barn with foothill Colorado views and pine trees.

If you want a wedding venue with views near Denver without asking guests to drive deep into the mountains, Woodlands in Morrison makes for a practical option in Colorado.

It sits about 30 minutes from Denver, near Red Rocks and Evergreen, but still feels quiet, being tucked into the foothills. Pine trees surround the property, the barn creates a simple, easy-to-navigate layout, and the open layout of the ceremony and reception spaces makes the space ADA accessible.

Why Couples Choose Woodlands

Woodlands tends to attract couples who want:

  • A foothills setting without high elevation or long travel times

  • Easy access from Denver for guests

  • ADA accessible ceremony and reception spaces

  • A mid-price point compared to larger mountain resorts

  • A neutral space they can design around

If you prioritize guest accessibility, check out Woodlands. While most everything happens on one property around the barn, you and your partner can sneak away to a private overlook or time in the meadows, a few minutes walk away from the main area for your private vows, a moment alone, or sunset photos.

Woodlands may not fit your venue needs if:

  • You prefer lush, garden-style landscaping over pine trees and open turf.

  • You want a historic or heavily rustic aesthetic.

  • You want a backdrop of larger mountains rather than the foothills.

Ceremonies at Woodlands often take place outdoors just behind the reception building. You can have an indoor ceremony, but the flow works best when you use the lawn for the ceremony space because of the beautiful outdoor setting and the team's ability to set up the reception space before the end of the ceremony.

Indoor and Outdoor Options at Woodlands

Outdoor Ceremony Lawn
The ceremony takes place on a wide turf lawn framed by pine trees and foothill views. The open, bright barn and space stand amongst pine trees with a great Colorado foothills backdrop.

Indoor Reception Barn
The barn has whitewashed walls, black accents, chandeliers, and large sliding doors. The climate-controlled barn can also host an indoor ceremony if needed.

Covered Patio for Cocktail Hour
The partially covered patio allows guests to move between indoor and outdoor spaces and gives you and the staff breathing room for portraits, setup, and pre-ceremony prep.

Best Photo Spots at Woodlands

1. The Overlook
You’ll find a private rocky overlook a few minutes' walk beyond the main lawn. The outcrop's privacy and scenic views make it ideal for first looks, private vows, and sunset portraits.

2. The Pine Trees
Further down from the overlook, the pine trees create soft shade and a more intimate feel.

3. The Side Porch
The side patio and porch area often has the most consistent light on the property. It works well for family photos and small group portraits.

4. The Lavender/Grass Field Near the Cottage
The field photographs best early to mid-morning and mid to late afternoon because of the direction of the light during these windows.

Lighting Considerations

If you plan to photograph at Woodlands for the first time, walk the grounds early. How long does it take to reach the overlook? Plan for direct ceremony light. Use the turf or patio for large group photos to keep surfaces even and accessible.

  • Your guests will have the sun hitting them from one side of the ceremony lawn space. Either you or your partner will face the sun directly, while the sun will backlight the other one of you during your ceremony.

  • Consider parasols, which help guests stay cool and avoid sunburn during the ceremony. Parasols will also help keep sunglasses from your guests’ faces during the ceremony photos.

  • Intense midday light, between roughly 11:45 and 1:00, causes harsh shadows for portraits. Use the trees or the porch for shade if you plan to do any outdoor portraits during this time.

  • When the team opens the barn doors for your reception, photographers will have to adapt to work with a lot of backlight. Photographers make sure to plan accordingly!

  • I encourage 5-10 minutes of sunset portraits (about one hour before sunset), as the grounds make it super easy to hop out and hop back in without missing a beat of your party.

Things to Know Before You Book

Parking and Shuttles
Woodlands provides on-site parking for around 60 people. For larger guest counts, you’ll need a shuttle. The turnoff from Highway 285 leads down a short, steep dirt road, so give guests a heads-up because it comes up quickly.

Accessibility
The ceremony lawn, reception barn, and main building getting ready areas are ADA accessible. The separate cottage, because of its location and stairs up to it, is not as accessible, but once inside the main area, it is all on one level.

Planner Requirement
Woodlands requires a professional insured coordinator from their list. They also have an in-house coordinator available.

Event Timing
Events typically fall within a six-hour window. Setup begins earlier in the day, and cleanup wraps by 11 pm. Ask about early access if needed.

Weather Backup Plan
You can use the indoor barn space and the covered patio as backup options if the weather shifts.

The team makes their organized booking process a breeze.

  3. Pay 50 percent of the venue fee to secure your date.

Planning Resources

From a Photographer’s Perspective

Woodlands’ team, along with the environment, creates a relaxed feel on wedding days. You get pine trees and foothill views without high elevation or complicated logistics. Woodlands also designed their venue layout for weddings-they planned for getting ready spaces, cocktail hour spaces (including room for kids to run around), ceremony spaces, and reception spaces. Their layout will make it easy for guests and you to navigate your day.

Mia and Marwan hosted one of my favorite weddings at Woodlands. They had a Palestinian Jewish wedding where the couple shared their love for their family, culture, and food with all their family and friends. The open layout lent itself well to the Dabke. For those who do not know, “Dabke is an Arabic folk dance which originated in the mountains of the Levantine region. This region in the Middle East includes the countries of Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and Palestine. “ (williams.edu). The overlook at Woodlands also gave the couple a quiet moment away from the crowd.

Staying in Denver

How Woodlands Compares to Other Foothills Wedding Venues

If you’re considering other foothill venues near Denver, here’s how Woodlands tends to differ.

Modern vs Rustic

Many Colorado foothill venues lean heavily toward rustic or lodge style. Woodlands feels more modern and clean. The white barn interior gives you flexibility without heavy wood tones dominating your design.

Accessibility

Not all mountain or foothill venues are wheelchair accessible. Woodlands stands out here. The main ceremony lawn and reception space allow anyone in a wheelchair to move about with ease; however, you cannot count on great accessibility at higher-elevation venues.

Elevation and Guest Comfort

Some mountain venues require guests to drive 60 to 90 minutes from Denver and adjust to a higher elevation. Woodlands avoids that. It gives you pine trees and foothill views without the altitude complications.

Layout Simplicity

Everything happens in one contained property:

  • Ceremony lawn directly behind reception space

  • Covered patio for cocktail hour

  • Private overlook for portraits

  • Open lawn space for kids and yard games

You do not need transportation between the ceremony and reception sites, which simplifies timelines significantly and gives you more time with your people and more time to party.

If a venue with a modern barn design, Colorado scenery, and ease of comfort and guest interests interests you, set up an appointment to tour Woodlands.
